Lineups and missing players: how to interpret the context
First establish what is confirmed and when it was recorded. A projected lineup, a doubtful player and a confirmed absence are different types of information.
Confirmed and projected lineups
A confirmed starting lineup is different from a forecast. Check the timestamp and source status, especially near kickoff. Availability varies by match and competition.
A missing lineup does not prove that a team has no absences. It may simply mean that the available feed has not supplied the information.
Interpret absences cautiously
Injury, suspension and selection decisions can affect participation. A player marked doubtful is not automatically absent, and an absent player’s previous output is not necessarily lost one-for-one.
Teammates can take different roles and substitutes can contribute. Do not subtract a player’s average mechanically from the team projection.
Compare a meaningful reference lineup
For enabled expanded team markets with sufficient coverage, lineup similarity can affect the weighting of earlier matches. A substantially different eleven can make a past match less representative.
The sample and the type of available lineup information matter. This mechanism does not imply that every market or every individual player model incorporates all visible absences.
Keep descriptive output separate from the model
Shots or goals associated with players describe their recorded contribution in a particular sample. That information is useful context, but it is not automatically a forecast of the replacement lineup.
Check appearances and minutes before comparing players. Missing observations should remain missing rather than becoming zeros.
Recheck near kickoff
Compare confirmed updates with the information used when a prediction was saved. A current analysis and an earlier shared selection can reflect different information times.
Review the methodology, available sample and market rules. Lineup context improves interpretation but does not guarantee a match outcome or profit.
